Frequently Asked Questions

Answers Before You Book

Honest answers about quotes, marina and property access, weather, boat detailing, oxidation, dock and seawall cleaning, service areas, and follow-up. If you don't see your question, ask it through the quote form and we'll respond directly.

Quotes & Scheduling

How to request a quote, what shapes the estimate, and how appointments are confirmed.

  • How do I request a quote?

Use the Request a Quote page and share what needs care, where it's kept, and any facility or access notes. Photos are optional but they help us plan the right approach and give you a more accurate estimate. There is no obligation to book after receiving a quote.

  • What factors affect pricing?

Every estimate is custom. The main factors are the size and condition of what needs care, the scope you approve, access considerations (slip, lift, marina, gate, tide-sensitive windows), utility availability, and the surfaces or materials involved. We don't publish flat rates because two projects of the same size can require very different work.

  • Can you provide an estimate from photos?

Often yes. Clear photos of the hull, deck, interior, dock, seawall, or lift help us give a realistic initial estimate. For heavier restoration or older surfaces we may still need a short on-site look before we commit to a final scope.

  • How is an appointment confirmed?

Once you approve the written scope we agree on a service window, confirm access details, and send a written confirmation. Weather and tide realities on the Gulf Coast can affect timing, so we build in buffers rather than promise an exact minute of arrival.

  • How quickly will you respond to my request?

We reply to every quote request in the order it arrives and work to keep responses timely. Complex projects — commercial waterfront, restoration, or facility coordination — may take a little longer while we confirm access and scope. We won't promise a fixed response window we can't consistently keep.

Access, Utilities & Weather

Water, power, marina and managed-property approvals, customer preparation, and weather impacts.

  • Do you need on-site water and electrical access?

For most projects yes — a working dockside water source and a standard electrical outlet make the work possible. If either isn't available at your slip or property, tell us in advance so we can plan an alternative approach or bring the equipment we need.

  • Can you work at a marina, HOA, or managed property?

Yes, with two conditions. First, you (the vessel or property owner) must authorize the visit. Second, the marina, HOA, condominium, or yacht club must approve independent mobile service, which sometimes involves vendor registration, insurance documentation, restricted service hours, and confirmed access. We're not affiliated with or endorsed by any facility — we coordinate on your behalf and let you know if anything blocks scheduling.

  • Are you insured?

Yes. Sun & Shine Marine Care carries general liability coverage. We can furnish a certificate of insurance to a marina, HOA, or property manager on request — please mention the requirement in your quote so we can send documentation before the first visit.

  • What should I do to prepare for the visit?

Clear personal items from the work area, confirm dockside water and power access, share any gate codes or property notes, and flag neighboring boats or dock sections we should be extra mindful of. A short heads-up about known damage or sensitive equipment is also helpful.

  • What happens if the weather turns?

Florida weather can cut a service window short. If conditions make safe or high-quality work impossible — lightning, heavy wind, unsafe seas — we reschedule at no penalty. We would rather move the appointment than compromise the outcome.

Boat Detailing & Restoration

Boat types, service levels, oxidation, protection options, and interior scope.

  • What kinds of boats do you service?

Center consoles, dual consoles, deck boats, cruisers, sportfish, sailboats, and yachts across a wide range of sizes. If your vessel is unusual or oversized, describe it in your quote request and we'll confirm whether it's a good fit before scheduling.

  • What's the difference between a wash, a detail, and a restoration?

A wash focuses on regular exterior cleaning and salt removal to maintain a boat that's already in good condition. A detail adds deeper cleaning, machine polishing, wax or sealant, interior work, and hardware care. A restoration is corrective work — heavier compounding, gelcoat correction, and staged polishing for a neglected or oxidized surface. Which level fits your vessel depends on its current condition, not its size.

  • Can you correct heavy oxidation and faded gelcoat?

For most gelcoat surfaces we can significantly restore clarity and gloss through compound and polish steps. The realistic outcome depends on how deep the oxidation is and how much gelcoat remains. If a hull is truly past correction and needs professional repair or refinishing, we'll say so and refer you to another specialist.

  • What protection options are available after a detail?

We can apply marine wax or synthetic sealants suited to Gulf Coast sun, salt, and heat, and can discuss ceramic-style coating options where they make sense. Which option is right depends on the surface condition, how the boat is used, and how often you plan to maintain it.

  • Do you clean boat interiors?

Yes. Depending on the package we clean vinyl seating, dash and console surfaces, glass, cabin surfaces, and hardware. Deep steam cleaning, mold or mildew treatment, and teak brightening are included in higher-tier services. We'll describe exactly what's covered in the written scope before we begin.

Dock, Lift, Seawall & Waterfront Care

Materials, combined boat + waterfront visits, commercial coverage, and repair exclusions.

  • What dock and seawall materials do you clean?

Composite and wood decking, concrete surfaces, concrete and vinyl seawall faces and caps, pilings, and boat-lift cradles and rails. Each material takes a slightly different approach, and we tailor pressure, chemistry, and technique to protect the surface.

  • Can you clean the boat and the dock in the same visit?

Often yes. When the vessel, lift, and dock are on one property and access and daylight allow, we can bundle the visit. Describe the full scope in your quote request so we can plan the schedule and confirm the site can support both.

  • Do you serve both residential and commercial waterfront properties?

Yes. We work with individual homeowners as well as marinas, HOAs, condominium associations, yacht clubs, and waterfront businesses. Commercial engagements usually involve additional coordination — vendor onboarding, insurance documentation, scheduled visits — which we help arrange.

  • Do you repair damaged docks, seawalls, or lifts?

No. We focus on cleaning and surface care. Structural repair, board replacement, seawall repair, and mechanical lift work require licensed specialists in those trades. If we spot something structural during a visit we flag it so you can bring in the right professional.

  • What cleaning methods do you use?

A mix of soft washing, controlled pressure washing, and marine-safe cleaning agents chosen for the surface, condition, and surroundings. Choices are made with neighboring boats, landscaping, and shared water in mind.

Maintenance, Service Areas & Follow-Up

Recurring care, current coverage on Florida's Gulf Coast, and after-service updates.

  • Do you offer recurring maintenance plans?

Yes — for boats, docks, lifts, and seawalls. We discuss a cadence that fits how the vessel or property is used, but we do not promise a fixed maintenance interval. Real conditions and how you use the boat or waterfront tell us what actually works over time.

  • Which areas do you currently serve?

Sarasota (our home base), Bradenton, Siesta Key, Lido Key, and Longboat Key. Nearby locations are welcome — mention your address in the quote form and we'll confirm whether it's within our current range. Additional Gulf Coast areas are planned as we grow.

  • How will I know when the work is done?

We finish with a walk of the vessel or waterfront surface, address anything that needs a second pass, and confirm the visit is complete. When you're not on-site we can share written confirmation and, where helpful, photos of the finished condition.

  • Can you share additional photos after the work?

Yes. On request we share condition photos so you can see the finished result — especially useful when you're not local, when a facility or property manager needs documentation, or when we're setting up recurring care.

  • What happens if my project needs another kind of specialist?

We tell you plainly. Structural repair, mechanical work on lifts or motors, upholstery replacement, and hull refinishing are outside our scope. When a project is a better fit for a different trade we say so up front rather than take on work that isn't ours.
